Italy opened the World Cup 2015 with a win against Canada 3:1 (25:19, 25:20,:22:25, 25:13). Ivan Zaytsev scored 20 points while Juantorena claimed the most impressive player award. Canada’s Gavin Schmitt and Nicholas Hoag both scored 15 points for their country. Italy coach Lorenzo Blengini said: "We have to be happy with the victory. We approached the first game well. We played good in the second and fourth sets. Canada played well in the first and third sets. They had a good dig. Being mentally, physically, technically, organisationally ready will be the key to each match. That and reflecting on each match will be the key to winning the tournament".
