See fantastic match between East Germany and Brazil from The Olympics 1972. East Germany won 3:1 (15:5, 7:15, 16:14, 15:10). In that tournament played also team from West Germany! They lost all matches, including against Romania, East Germany, Brazil, Cuba, Japan. East Germany with 9 points took 2nd place in group B. They lost game against Japan national team in three sets. The 1972 Men's Olympic Volleyball Tournament was the 3rd edition of the event, organized by the world's governing body, the FIVB in conjunction with the IOC. It was held in Munich, West Germany from 27 August to 9 September 1972. In the final match, Japan played against East Germany again. Japan without big problems won 3:1. 3rd place took Soviet union. They won against Bulgaria.

Nice one, Vatreni. I have this match, but I was never able to find the gold medal match between Japan and East Germany. The Japanese team was led by a guy who’s considered the first of all great setters, Katsutoshi Nekoda. He was a four-time Olympian, won three medals (bronze in 1964, silver in 1968 and gold in 1972), and died young, at 39, of stomach cancer. If you ever find the 1972 Olympics gold medal match I’ll owe you some all-inclusive vacation wherever you choose.
Look at those uniforms... Germans wearing diapers, Brazilians wearing spandex (very popular back then)... Those uniforms are ridiculous. The game was interesting though. Please, compare this match to some from the 80s and you’ll see how fast vball changes. Make a quick stop in the 90s and then fast forward to modern vball: Serve, block schemes and defense are completely different, and vball is obviously way faster now.

Not to bash the teams during that time, but a third league Italian team would beat them today. Not that they were bad players, but now volleyball is much more developed

I want to know from where have you got this kind of matches?? 1972, 1978, 1995... For me this matches are very interesting. Good job vatreni...
