Champions League 2014/15: Germany’s volleyball community to support Berlin Volleys

When the home side of BERLIN Recycling Volleys will be playing at the CEV DenizBank Champions League Final Four volleyball fans from all over Germany will actively support the German national champion. Even fans of the national arch-rival VfB FRIEDRICHSHAFEN are planning to cheer on the home side on March 28-29 – dressed in BR Volleys orange.

There is mainly one reason why members of the “Blue Bears” are travelling to Germany’s capital city, that is to root for the Berlin arch-rival of VfB FRIEDRICHSHAFEN when both German standouts clash each other. However, for the Final Four weekend the supporters will change their jerseys in order to drum, hoot and sing for the home side – dressed in BR Volleys orange. Together with 200 fans of the “7. Mann” 15 “Blue Bears” will cheer on the home side. “It’s self-evident to us to support a German team as intensively as possible when it has made its way through to the Champions League Final Four”, Rudi Krafcsik, the fan’s representative of the VfB FRIEDRICHSHAFEN, says.

The „Blue Bears“ are, however, not the only fan community of a German team that will back the hosts. In the fashion of the German cup final in Halle/ Westphalia the 2015 Champions League Final Four possesses an immense radiance for the entire German volleyball community. That is, fan clubs from SUHL, VILSBIBURG, KÖNIGS-WUSTERHAUSEN, DÜREN and SPERGAU have promised their support for the home side.  Even the fans of the everlasting national rival of Generali UNTERHACHING – that is not playing in Germany’s first division anymore – will come all the way from Bavaria to Berlin to root for the BR Volleys. The numerically biggest fan community will be the fan club of Team Germany. “There has been no need to properly advertise our fan block – the fan clubs contacted us!” Bernd Paul, a longstanding BR Volleys supporter, says adding: “It’s gonna be packed and loud!”

All groups together will form a strong fan block – possibly all dressed in orange – to dictate the rhythm at Max-Schmeling-Halle. To do so, the BR Volleys fans will abandon their usual block and move to the gable end of the arena. If the fan groups of the other three Final Four participants will request their 850 tickets there will be four strong fan blocks ensuring a great atmosphere at the venue. If Skra BELCHATOW will qualify for the Final Four 2’000 Polish supporters are expected to travel to Berlin.

Those who have not got their ticket yet, have to step up a notch: Currently only 400 Tickets for the Final Four Weekend are left for sale: around 100 tickets for members of the BR Volleys fan block, 300 single passes (mostly standing tickets) and another 45 VIP tickets. The goal of selling out the arena and celebrating a volleyball spectacle in front of 8’500 spectators is coming closer – not least of all thanks to Germany’s volleyball community.
