Everything set for high-class Volleyball show as line-up for Playoffs 6 is complete

After 12 matches packed with emotions and the startling actions of the world’s best Volleyball players, six teams remain in contention for a spot in the Final Four tournament of the 2015 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League which is due to take place in Berlin on March 28-29 to mark the climax of an already fabulous season.   The actions will now continue with the Playoffs 6 coming up in less than two weeks, with the home matches due to be played on March 3-5 and the return leg following March 10-12.

The Berlin Recycling Volleys, hosts of the men’s Finals, are waiting to get to know the name of the opponent they will get to play before a sell-out crowd at the Max-Schmeling-Halle on March 28. Europe’s Volleyball strongholds confirmed once more their status as Russia and Poland have both two teams still in the race for making the Final Four, whilst Italy and Turkey have one each.

Halkbank Ankara caused one of the major sensations in the Playoffs 12 with their golden set win over last year’s gold medallists Belogorie Belgorod and will now play another Russian giant, Zenit Kazan, in the last stage of the competition preceding the Finals. Zenit did not drop a set in seven matches but on Thursday night conceded two to Italy’s Copra Volley Piacenza, though they had already secured their promotion to the Playoffs 6 after claiming a 2:1 lead in their re-match with Hristo Zlatanov & Co.

The extension of Russia’s rule in the competition can also count on the contribution of 2013 gold medallists Lokomotiv Novosibirsk who easily routed Tomis Constanta of Romania with a double 3:0 and will now take on a much harder nut to crack, Poland’s Asseco Resovia Rzeszów. The last fixture in the Playoffs 6 is another exciting one: Poland’s champions PGE Skra Bełchatów will indeed test the strength and determination of Italian rookies Sir Safety Perugia who – under the guidance of Serbia’s Volleyball legend Nikola Grbić – have already left their mark on the competition right by the time they are making their first appearance on this prestigious stage.
