Quick news: Italian super cup edition. Monza and Trentino to finals!

After two intense matches between Monza versus Lube and Trentino versus Perugia, Monza and Trentino will be in the finals of the 2021/2022 Italian Super cup, breaking a 7 years dominance between Lube, Perugia and Modena. Trentino won this event back in the 2013/2014 season against Lube volley. This will be the first ever Super cup finals for Monza.

Monza won against Lube Civitanova three sets to one. Despite strong expectation for Lube volleyball to proceed into the finals, Monza once again proves themselves as one of the front runners of the Italian Super league. In week two, Monza won against Modena, which surprised many. Looking through the stats, Monza out blocked Lube by 11 to 7 blocks and Monza out-served Lube by 11 to 5 aces with similar amount of serving errors. 

Juantorena and Lucarelli suffered a lot of reception issues with such strong serve, in particular with Juantorena suffering a huge impact on attacking percentage and efficiency, only scoring 10 attacks out of 28 attamps with 4 attack blocked, 36% attacking percentage and only 21.4% attack efficiency. On the other side of the court, Grozer scored really well against Lube, scoring 21 points with 15 attacks at 30 percent attacking efficiency, with 3 blocks and 3 aces. One of the issues that came up in this matchup was about the age and conditioning of Lube. On average, the age of the players is 29.71, whereas at Monza they average at 26.71. Considering Lube being a much more mature team than Monza, it is harder for them to maintain a high level at all times. Of course, it is Lube Civitanova and it’s Simon and Juantorena.

Trentino beat Perugia in three sets straight. Perugia, the team to beat, is beaten by Trentino in straight sets, despite financial struggles, letting Lucarelli, Nimir Abdel-Aziz and Simone Gianelli go, still managed to create a powerful team to beat Perugia. Kaziyski, Michieletto and Lavia started matches without an opposite on the starting lineup, Kzaiyski took some of the back row opposite shots and Lavia started through the opposite slot. Perugia on the other hand started Leon and Anderson through the outside hitter slot, and put Kamil Rychilicki through the opposite slot. However, in the third set, Perugia decided to put Plotnytskyi through the outside hitter slot, due to the lack of production from Rychilicki. The best scorer of the match is Leon, scoring 16 points with 16 attacks 44.83% attacking efficiency. However, Trentino had 5 hitters scoring over double digits.
