The draw for the first round of the World Championship Italy-Bulgaria 2018 on Thursday mapped out the road ahead for the 24 teams set to participate in next year's event.

 

 

Co-hosts Italy were paired with Argentina, Japan, Belgium, Slovenia and the Dominican Republic in Group A, while Bulgaria will take on reigning world champions Poland, Iran, Cuba, Finland and Puerto Rico in Group D.

In Group B, Olympic champions Brazil and Canada will play France, Egypt, China and the Netherlands while in Group C USA and Russia will be up against Serbia, Australia, Tunisia and Cameroon.

World Championship 2018 - First round draw result:
Group A (in Rome and Florence, Italy): Italy, Argentina, Japan, Belgium, Slovenia, Dominican Republic
Group B (in Ruse, Bulgaria): Brazil, Canada, France, Egypt, China, Netherlands
Group C (in Bari, Italy): United States, Russia, Serbia, Australia, Tunisia, Cameroon
Group D (in Varna, Bulgaria): Bulgaria, Poland, Iran, Cuba, Finland, Puerto Rico

Next year's edition of the FIVB's flagship event for men's national teams will take place in three Bulgarian and six Italian cities from September 10-30.
