There have been surprises all the way through the men’s volleyball competition, but that of this afternoon in the Mediterranean Games Sports Palace was the icing on the cake. Spain easily beat Egypt 3-0 in the first round, but could not hack the pace in the final and were unexpectedly beaten.
Without names, but with a lot of fighting spirit, the Africans beat Spain in five sets, who were a match point away from winning. The last point of the fifth set ended with block from the Egyptian defense that earned them a well deserved gold.
