Italy, the co-hosts of the EuroVolley, beat Russia in three sets in their quarterfinal match to delight a crowd of 4500 at Palayamamay in Busto Arsizio in their last home match of the competition. The Azzurri were simply too much to stand also for the reigning Olympic and European champions and powered by Ivan Zaytsev and Osmany Juantorena comfortably claimed a ticket to Sofia to play Slovenia - the real sensation of the tournament - in the semis.
