Maxim Mikhaylov started playing volleyball in the Leningrad region under the guidance of Valery Besprozvannykh. Starting from 2003 Maxim performed as an outside striker in different Yaroslavl clubs and last summer he moved to “Zenit” (Kazan). Mikhaylov debuted in the Russian senior national team on the 14th of June, 2008, in the World League match against the team of S.Korea. With the Russian team he won the bronze and the silver medals of the World League and the bronze of 2008 Beijing summer Olympics. Mikhaylov was also nominated for the different individual awards, he was recognized as the best scorer and the best striker of the 2010 FIVB World League, best striker of the 2010 FIVB World Championship, the best scorer of the 2011 CEV Champions League and the best scorer of the Russian Superleague (2007/08, 2008/09, 2009/10). He is considered as one of the main Russian hope for years ahead.
Diagonal Russian national team player Maxim Mikhailov deservedly was voted MVP of two tournaments. The athlete added the title of the best blocking to an existing title of his most valuable player. In 2011 Maxim Mikhaylov in the Russian national team won the World League and the World Cup.
