The controversial with Serbian Libero Sanja Durdevic in the match against Thailand.

In the match up with Serbia against Thailand, Serbian Libero Sanja Djurdevic has shown a racially charged gesture during the match. Though she has apologies to team Thailand, I want to address the issue and it is deeply concerning and disturbing as viewer to enduring such insult in a public space.

It's been a continue issue with the current Olympic cycle with Serbian team in 2017 and Olympic qualification in 2019 with the Russia Head coach Sergio Busato showing racially charged gesture. Even though FIVB has tried to work on reducing racially charged action happening on court, there has yet to be penalties on anyone with racist and anti Asian agenda inside the court. How is it appropriate when players and coaches showing those kinds of sign PUBLICLY and knowingly in front live sport coverage. The argument of “my intention is not to be racist against anyone, but to celebrate the success of my game” is completely and utterly BS. If you are willingly, and knowingly doing an action that will cause harm and conflict against your opponent, it's pretty clear the context and intention of your action.

So, FIVB, it's time to step up your game to improve safety and respects in and outside of the game.

@MihaiZarate Stop using the word FAKE NEWS, because the girl tries to manipulate the media on how “Thai team has forgive her” and Yes it is. It is racially charged, it is done in front of their Asian opponent. It doesn't matter if the intend is to “Wake up her teammates”, it is improper and it damages their reputation and it is done intentionally against Asian opponents.
