"The fans liked the mascot right from the start and there was a fantastic atmosphere on the tribunes. Denmark will play their home matches at VELUX EuroVolley2013 in Odense, where Hans Christian Andersen was born, and we will cross our fingers that the Danish team’s participation in the European Championship will develop in the same way as the fairytale about the ugly duckling, so Denmark will surprise everybody and qualify for the playoffs in Aarhus", said local managing director Mads Bang Aaen.
"We have chosen HC as the VELUX EuroVolley2013 mascot because this championship will be shown in the entire world. Danish Volleyball Federation and our partners Sport Event Denmark, Odense, Herning, Aarhus and Copenhagen will as organizers like to connect other stories besides volleyball to the European Championship. VELUX EuroVolley2013 is an obvious opportunity to show other sides of Denmark than we are good at arranging sport events. Many will ask us about the mascot and then we will have the opportunity to tell them more about H.C. Andersen and Denmark", he said.
For the final round of the 2013 European Championship HC, and his brother, will be in Boxen in Herning and Arena Fyn in Odense during the preliminary group matches. Then the mascot will fly to the playoffs in NRGi Arena Aarhus and then all the way to the semi finales, bronze medal match and final in Parken in Copenhagen.
Group A (Odense): Denmark , Italy , Belarus , Belgium
Group B (Gdańsk): Poland , Slovakia , France , Turkey
Group C (Herning): Finland , Serbia , The Netherlands , Slovenia
