Miguel Ángel López | Spot the Talent

Miguel Ángel López Castro is one of the biggest Cuban volleyball talents, especially on the outside hitter's position, together with Marlon Yant and Osniel Melgarejo. Lopez is playing also as an opposite in the Cuban national team which is not that typical and a bit awkward since he is only 190 cm tall. Lopez was born in 1997, started his career in Cienfuegos, played in Argentina, including in UPCN, and for the next season he is the new signing of one of the biggest Brazilian clubs - Sada Cruzeiro Vôlei.

Lopez Castro was born in Cienfuegos Province, Cuba, the youngest of 3 children of Elcida Juana Castro and Miguel Angel Lopez Martinez. His interest in volleyball began at the age of seven, when he saw footage of former Cuban star Joel Despaigne and his jumping ability. By the age of nine Lopez started his formation in a sport center of his province. By the age of 18 he was selected among other young players to the national volleyball centre "Escuela National de Voleibol" in Havana, as one of the top promises in the country.
