Iran - Italy (full match)
Italy defeats Iran 3:0 (25:22, 25:18, 25:22) and wins bronze at the World League Finals 2014. Italy win the bronze medal for the second year in a row. Prior to 2013, they had not finished on the podium for eight seasons. Top scored player was Ivan Zaytsev with 14 points, in Iran Amir Ghafour with 8 points. Italian setter Dragan Travica said that Italy can win a future tournament soon, after they claimed the bronze medal in the FIVB World League finals with a straight sets victory over Iran. "The World League is a great tournament, it is as good as the World Championships," said Travica. "We are still ambitious, and we still think we’re a great team who can win tournaments. Now we have to prove it. At least we ended our tournament with a victory. We’ll give ourselves both a pat on the shoulders for today, and a slap on the wrists for yesterday". Iranian coach Slobodan Kovac was happy with his side, but thinks they can improve. He said: “I’m proud of the team, but I am not satisfied with our last two matches. It is not easy to play at this level every day, but we have to learn. We will keep trying to get better".
