Surprising Olympics in Tokyo

The Olympics is full of surprising result. This is what makes this sports so exciting and attention seeking. For some, it's the beginning of a new era and for others, it's the end of an era. With all the ups and downs in this Olympics, I want to share my fair share of “Surprise”. 

1. USA men and Chinese women were sent home early after a poor performance in the preliminary stage. Both medal contending team, especially the reigning Olympics champion China, were knockout of the preliminary stage because of losing majors matches against other medal contending teams. Partly they were in one of the toughest pool in the competition and they were edge out by stronger performing teams. It was a shocking revelations for volleyball fans.
2. Argentina and France made it to Semifinals. Unlike how some predicted the games, Italy and Poland were out of medal contention after losing 3:2 against their opponent, Argentina and France respectively. It's the first time since 1992 for Italy to not reach the Semifinals of the Olympics and it's the 5th consecutive Olympics for Poland to ended at 5th. Italy was edged out by a excited Argentinian team after a great upset in pool stage against USA. Poland on the other hand was beaten by well studied French team.
3. Korea being the only team to continue their journey in Olympics, despite low expectation. China and Japan were the favorites to make it to the knockout stage, but poor performance by China and Korea edge out Japan in the same pool. The Koreans became the team to qualified into the quarterfinals and semifinals.
