Italy was one of the favorites to get Champion title (they have won World Champs in 1990 and three editions of World League before Olympics in Barcelona: World League 1990, 1991 and 1992). Unfortunately they lost decisive quarterfinal with Netherlands in tie-break and took 5th place in Barcelona.
