yes, maybe, it can happen one time, but they did it already many times, and I don't really find that shows much respect for the opponent or for the spectators. (I think that also the Italian supporters don't really like this kind of behaviour.)

I think Mauro Berruto has every right to be where he is, even if he knew the ball was coming and decided to turn his back. The italian libero however, clearly intentionally got in the way of Priddy when the ball wasn't even within 15 feet of landing inside his court, and he still chased it and got in Priddy's way.

@ NXT. I am in now way defend Giovi. He should have know that's an almost impossible ball to return and not interfere. Roman Yakovlev hit the ball like 2 inches above the tape. if vlado was standing he could probably block him. Bartman did the same thing a few years back. if you put a free balll high enough it should give your player time to get back. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9APFll-hxVY

I think it was not the first time Giovi behaves like an ass. I dont know what match that was, but he tried to trip a player from opposite team up when coming back to his court after defence, anyone remember that?

no... there's a rule... NEVER hinder a possible defense... u cannot know if the ball was lose
referee should give a yellow card to Giovi, beacause he got the clear intention to obstacle the player and it's a misconduct

Hewwing - "plus how likely was it that they would get the ball back over?" It's not an argument that justifies such behaviour. How likely was Vlado Grbic to block the russian player (can't remember his name now) after his amazing defence? Even if Italians would just get a free ball they could make some mistake or just get blocked... so talking about US chances is pointless since Giovi didn't give them opportunity using his cheap tricks...

But see how that behavior reflects on what people think about pretty much everyone in your country? Then people would say that Bulgarians are some kind of barbarians and make no mistake about it,we don't have Italy's lobby in the FIVB,we would have been out of international volleyball for AWHILE.It's no secret, strong countries don't have to follow the rules that much and not so strong countries take penalties for wrongdoings even if they haven't done any.
In this situation alone,I think the referee didn't do his job and this is what happens when authorities don't do their job - things get out of hand.
However(and I know I'm totally contradicting myself with that) if Lambourne have done that to Rado,I might have kicked him in the head :D
@raylight - you edited your comment, now my finish doesn't make any sense haha

I think Mauro Berruto was following the ball. you can see that he is looking up and reassuring himself that it is clearly out. sometimes in tight games like that, players tend to really follow the ball out. however the libero didn't have to follow the ball. he was in the middle of the court when fei hit the ball and as a libero you should know the dimensions of the court fairly well, so it was unnecessary for him to block the American players. I however have done this before. I've pretended like i was going for a ball i knew was out only to move my hands out of the way in the very last second. just to be an ass :P. plus how likely was it that they would get the ball back over? if anything Italy would get a free ball they could destroy at the Americans :)

Am not pro "tricks " of any kind, but I think in that situation Rich's behavior is more scandalous. It's done...the ball is out of play, you can't do anything now, except go to the referee and explain your case.If he had done that,I would have been on his side, but again - shoving a national coach is plain ugly and offensive.I'm gonna quote Maxim, who when something of a fight broke out after Zenit - Al Araby at the WCCH this year, was trying to break it up saying "Come on,guys, this is volleyball! " .Those tricks are part of the game, just like the math, coaches do during certain tourneys and I've always said that I'm opposed to that, but what Rich did has no place on the volleyball court and he and Priddy can't be called victims after that.

I would've carded them both for unsportsmanlike conduct. Italians for blocking the Americans and to Lambourne for physical aggression (although that technically is a red card (in some cases red and yellow).

Berutto started shouting on Priddy - not conversely, Giovi evidently bloced Americans
pearl, Nagor only sys what he think sometimes too aggressively- true,
but Italians behaviour is well know in volleyball world, Italian teams, NT too always argue with judges, always try to judge by themslef and very, very often they dont have right, Polish comentators call this often italian theater, ot italians actors

Berruto is such an asshole. I remember his words about Bulgaria before we beat them 3:0 at the World League. And no, not all Italians are the same, Prandi for example is the opposite of Berruto

I don't think Berruto did it on porpuse, he's not that kind of person. I hope so at least.
Nagor, excuse me but don't you think that maybe your statement "I don't like italians and his behaviour" sounds a little bit extreme?

He was looking ing opposite direction.. ? Why? Because he want it, to block them. I think.
