Saku, your wrong, totally wrong ?
First, I know very well João José and if you say that Im sure you dont know him in nothing.
Second, he was in the World Championship 2002 in Argentina the Best Blocker of the tournament, second he won a lot of best blocker trophies and his skills are the best that one middleblocker needs. But unfortunately he's just 1,94m and if you see him playing or against Sisley Treviso or Zenit Kazan, he shows some respect, against Volkov or Gustavo. And Im not talking in the National team where he shows it every match against every Country, that he is one of the best.
I didnt mentioned nothing to you, so I dont know why you mentioned it now ?

And it makes me laugh so much seeing here some comments.
For some people, just because a middle blocker plays for the Italian or Polish or Brazilian national team, it means that they are one of the best?
I dont have to mean Volkov just because he's a good middleblocker and good Attacker or Lucas because he is World Champion and World League Champion.
The best are most of the times, in the 'weak' teams, and sometimes there comes a 'STAR' in a big team, who is the best of the best by far in his position. Like Robertlandy Simon in the moment who is by far the best in his poisition, and he shows it every single match, by blocking and attacking so quickly.
So but we are talking here about the Best Blockers, and NOT best Middleblockers.
ANd Im meaning the best blockers for me of the Middleblockers, of course there are good blockers of other Positions.

Well we can mean a lot of Middleblockers here who are and were good. Like Kuleshov, Kazakov, Egorchev, Lebl and 100 more. But the toic here is 'the best blocker in the world' so I meant the best blockers in my opinion and how they can be considered the best, OR NOT.
For exemple Gustavo Endres, for me is an example of a good blocker, he couldnt be the best blocker in the world if he wouldnt study the other opponents Point by Point, Match by Match. And the coach and statistic coach tell him ' Gustavo, in P3 you stay in the middle, in P4 they play 50% of the balls with the opposite so you block directly the opposite etc etc' . Because this information and work is essential for his succes as a good blocker. And of course then he has to work a LOT in every practise with coordenation work and block work and always with a the maximum concentration.
It depends so much of your coaching team, of the statistic coach, if he gives you good information or not. And then of course you have to take it and you can be successfull or not, it doesn't depend only of you, it depends more of your team too.
So I keep my opinion here, and like Joachim7 said that in Belgium the worst middleblocker of the league is the second best blocker in the League ranking, its most of the times fake. Yes he can be good, but he can be the worst and be a very lucky Blocker with so easy balls that he can be the Best League blocker by far in the stats but in the reality he is a SHAME.

Well I think if we talk about best BLOCKER ! My list is : Gustavo Endres, Robertlandy Simon, Stefan Huebner, Mastrangelo, David Lee, João José. For me these are good exemples of Good Blockers, with a very good block technique and block culture.
We have very very good blockers with 'slow balls' that are easy to block, and we have very very fast blockers that block easily a 'fast ball' and there is a good difference, from a Fast and good blocker to a good blocker that blocks good slow balls.
I can mean a loot of Good middleblockers, but good good BLOCKERS aren't so much. And its not just the experience that counts, you earn it with a lot of cordenation work, and block work.
The stats can mean a lot and can just mean NOTHING, because a MB can do 6 blockes every game, and these 6 blocks be with TRIPLE BLOCKS and easy balls to block or can be 6 hard balls where he had to run and block a difficult ball. So I think the stats aren't the best way to judge a Player ?
Dont you agree?
