Russia defeated Bulgaria 3:0 (25:18, 25:22, 25:15) on the first night of the FIVB World League two-match series at "DS Energetic" hall on Saturday in Surgut. Russia were led by Nikolay Pavlov and Denis Biriukov, who both scored 13 points, while Tsvetan Sokolov was Bulgaria’s top scorer with 12 points. Russia had the advantage in serving (5-2) and blocking (9-5), and committed 10 fewer errors than Bulgaria. Russia coach Andrey Voronkov said: "We analyzed the way the Bulgarian team attacks before the match and managed to defeat them. The team had an enormous desire to win today and they managed to do it.".
