I dont want to join in this discussion about Matey is or isnt second class bullshit. I dont care, but I say only one:
All players are good in attack, thats for sure, but volleyball isnt only about attacking the ball...I base from my player experience. Dont judge me please.

Berny - not all are good at attack believe me ... and some are better than the others, that's the difference because some of them will score 4/5 and some of them will score 2/5 ...

First of all,hats off to Ball for being as cool as he is,answering random questions from fans ?
However,I disagree that Matey's technique is not good.When he was injured this year during the WL,he couldn't jump to save his life,but our team still relied on him a lot and he delivered(as much as he could)thanks to the technique,that he had developed in Italy for the past 5 years.And speaking of Italy,I know for a fact,that he is really respected over there,by fans and specialist alike,and if we know about Italians,they care about that stuff more than about a player's physical qualities and they rearly praise foreigners for the sake of it ?
I don't think that I should continue writing here,though,mostly 'cause I'll admit that it's hard for me to argue about Matey,without getting emotional(I respect him for a million different reasons outside of his sport abilities). Plus,Henrique's here now,and I have to say I'm very intimidated by his expertise in volleyball,since I'm a volleyball enthusiast at best ? On very rear occasions a post after one of his doesn't sound ridiculous,and I have a feeling mine are not gonna be one of the lucky ones ?

@champion - He's one of two players in our team that has a champion mentality,but 2 are not enough...the other boys should grow some balls and stop caring,who they're up against.I'm getting tired of hearing "We can,but we don't".About the referees not backing us up,I've noticed that he never blames our loses on such mistakes.If there were some very obvious ones and he was asked about them,he always says "It's our fault,we shouldn't let such things get to us",and I can stand behind that.I'm annoyed as much as every Bulgarian when I see an ace being ruled out as "out" in a tiebreak,but he's right that big teams don't get bothered by that so much,they just win the next play.Other than that...yeah,we're a small country,the budget of our whole sports ministry is smaller than what Italy spends on basketball(why is Italy in my head so much? ?)...nothing in FIVB depends on us...etc. ...you're gonna make me cry,dude,I'm not reading your posts anymore! ? ?

Yes , I think that Matey has good technique too. He proved it many times and many specialist see that. But everybody has opinion and I'm glad that Lloy Ball share his with us.

@Berny: in this moment volleyball is hitting and serving hard every ball. Trento in the last 6 year got the worse reception in every competition, but we won every competition whit serve and great attack whit less errors

Kjeldhor I agree with you, I mean: if you attack, so attack the ball so hard, as you can. Think about how to hit the block, but not to be blocked ? I want to say in my previous comment: that everybody wants attack, but manyplayers forgot the other stuff must be train. Serve, set, block and ofcourse mostly reception ? Trentino is the best because of their attack.

anyway i totally agree whit Lloyd, Matey is a great player focused on power and he can't play at high level too much years, and for sure he's not a good receiver (usually Rado switch him whit Dore after serve) but it's an important player for every team, he usually show his best when teams get some difficult.
and doesn't matter if he's a fourth choice whit giba, murilo and dante... i don't think a team can pay all this champsion ?

Probably i can't explain well what i mean but i'll try:
when i say that bruno play faster then marlon i don't mean the speed they impress to the ball, i should say bruno is more unpredictable, sometimes his mates are surprised too by his set , especially during break point. (i didn't see Marlon in the last year, i just remember when he played in italian league and 2 match in this WC).

I'm sure Dante is not the Dante that i saw in Modena 4 years ago, but believe me that Matey increase his recepetion too (efficency at first year in italian league was 0.17 and last year he got 0.33

This discussion is pointless. On this position in the world there are at least 10-15 excellent players. Currently the Brazilian are not the top and this is more than obvious. Their balanced to perfection team and ultimate libero helps them win but things are changing. Russia, Poland, Bulgaria, Italy, Cuba have much stronger attacking players than Brazil. Look at the last World Cup or World League statistics.

Jeez raylight CHILL OUT! You still, as a team, have no huge, amazing, impressive, "OMFG" successes with this great player, so even if he would be second class player it's not end of the world.

I think NightFox wrote here to me that not Matey has titles but whole team [Trento]. So it's time for you to understand that in vball TEAM is more important than one Matey. So you should more focus on those who are working for his glory too, like for example whole Serbian NT is working for Ivan to shine. Alexis and Quiroga are working hard for De Cecco to let him amazed whole vball world, etc, etc, etc. Matey can be on of those who make team special, but he won't be THE ONLY ONE who does that.

I don't understand all this topics... I think we would only say our opinion... For me Matey is one of the best players in the world, but Giba, Murilo and Dante have much more experience... They have won olympics, World leagues, World cups... and many more...
So I think at the moment Giba & co. are better only because of this.
We are discussing about extraordinary players, each of them has qualities that others has not, so it is difficult to determine which is the best... ?

I think that Matey is a first class player, of course. Still, his skills are - to me - completely different from those of brazilian players. Kaziyski is a powerful player, and his main skills are the strenght and a big jump. Now, as he grows older, if one of these two features gets worse then it is at the moment, Matey will have several problems, because he's not fast as other players (Giba, Murilo, Juantorena - strong and fast at the same time - ).
Also...Kaziyski is bulgarian, so, what are you fighting about? ?
