Not exacly...Lettuce is using because dollars are green. Pound are pounds. They call yen's "wariaty" cause they invent it;)...moreover looks how yen's looks like...so wariaty

pearl - no, it's not about Japanese currency. it's popular for polish people to call currency from different countries (all countries) by one universal word. so you don't say dollars, pounds, yens or złoty just "wariaty" ( 500 wariatów because endings are different in polish language) :D it's kind of slang i would say like for example money is lettuce
